Workshops
Venue: Marriott Marquis, City Center Doha Hotel
Two workshops with the following titles will be offered on April 15, 2018 :
Traffic characterization and skid resistance and safety
Instructors: Dr. Ala Abbas, Dr. Anupam Kumar, Dr. Emad Kassem, Dr. Reginald Kogbara & Mr. Tianchi Tang
Description:
Traffic is one of the primary inputs for pavement design. This workshop covers a wide range of topics that are related to traffic characterization for mechanistic-empirical pavement design. Main topics include traffic monitoring technologies, traffic data formats, traffic inputs required for the mechanistic-empirical pavement design guide (MEPDG), hierarchical approach to input traffic in the MEPDG, traffic data analysis to obtain the required traffic inputs at various hierarchical levels, and handling of traffic data in the MEPDG.
This workshop also covers topics of advancement in tire-pavement interaction skid resistance models on the basis of required laboratory tests for the prediction of the progressive loss of skid resistance as a function of the composition of the pavement surface and the variation of its characteristics with environmental and traffic conditions. Main topics include skid resistance and its importance, measurements of surface friction characteristics in the laboratory prediction models of skid resistance of asphalt pavements, FEM modeling of skid resistance, skid resistance prediction models developed in the context of Qatar, and FEM results and developed correction factors and conclusions.
Time: 08:00 AM-16:00 PM
Price: USD 50
Last day of registration: April 14, 2018
Bituminous Materials Characterization 101: Basics and Recent Advances
